Supporting Charity One Pound at a Time

May 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Second Cup Coffee franchise owner, Vinay Aggarwal, at Gateway Boulevard and 34th Avenue in Edmonton is lending his support to local woman's trek to the base camp on Mt. Everest in support of MS Climb 2010. For the month of May, for every pound of coffee sold at this store, $1 per pound will be donated to Edmonton's, Roxanne Gural, who will embark on this journey in October. Roxanne is very excited about this support and after the first couple weekends the total has exceeded $300.

Second Cup Coffee is independantly owned and is Canada's largest specialty cafe franchisor. Additionally, they are the second largest retailer of specialty coffee in Canada. Multiple Sclerosis is the most common neurological disease affecting young adults in Canada with Canadians having the highest rates of MS in the world. Every day three people are diagnosed with MS with women being three times more likely to develp this disease compared to men. Although the severity of the symptoms vary from person-to-person typical symptoms include vision, hearing, memory, balance and mobility. While there are treatments to moderate the course of the disease there is no cure at this time. For Roxanne, it made wonderful sense for a franchise like Second Cup Coffee to put their support behind a cause like the MS Climb whose funds will help the Society fund research as well provide support to families living with MS.

Roxanne is part of a Team which was established in 2008 with a goal to raise $1 million dollars for the MS Society of Canada. After two years the Team has raised over $400,000, well on their way to meeting this lofty goal. Last year, Roxanne and her team ventured to Africa ascending to the summit of Mt. Kilamanjaro. This year, the climb will not be to a mountain peak but to the 5200 meter based camp of Mt. Everest although maybe not as high as last year's peak but still a very challenging task on it's own. Last year Roxanne raised over $10,000 in her first year and this year her goal is $20,000.
