So one snowy winter Fargo North Dakota day, as my mother was bundling me up for school, she told me: ‘OK Dan, now when Stuart says this to you, here’s what I want you to say; and when he does this, here’s what I want you to do….’ She proceeded to advise me every day until I reported back that that I had used her words and suggestions, and the tactics worked--and Stuart was no longer bullying me. I had slain my first Energy Vampire using learned and memorized techniques. It wasn’t until I was a motivational keynote speaker and communication trainer that I realized how those skills had become extraordinary tools for me as a teacher of dealing with difficult people courses.
