People undergo a surgery either to maintain or restore their normal appearance or like in most cases, to enhance it. There is a surgery for any and every part of the body from lip enhancements to laser skin surfacing to Otoplasty and many more.
One such surgery that is high on demand by a major percentage of the population is Abdominoplasty. This is a small surgical procedure performed to remove any flaccid skin or extra flab present in the abdominal area. The surgery mainly targets at the excess saggy skin that results either after pregnancy, as an after- effect of losing excessive weight or naturally due to old- age. Abdominoplasty, however, is only performed if the whole abdominal area is affected. If the case is otherwise, another similar but minor procedure named mini - Abdominoplasty is employed.
During Abdominoplasty, an incision of around 6 inches is made in the lower abdomen. The extra skin is removed without stretching the skin. Since, there is no tension in the tissues during the whole procedure; no special post-operative care is required. However, before dressing the wound, a temporary drainage tube is placed to remove the surplus of fluids. Depending on the complexity of the cosmetic surgery, Abdominoplasty can take anywhere between one to five hours whereas the mini – tummy tuck procedure can go up to a maximum of two hours.
Abdominoplasty results in firm abdominal sections, thus, giving a slimmer appearance to your waist but it does tend to leave certain scars behind. However, the permanent solutions that it provides for getting rid of the loose skin belittle this one minor side- effect. Abdominoplasty should not be confused with a treatment for obesity. It only works to make the abdomen firm and flat and liposculpture should be the procedure to opt to remove the extra fat.
Apart from Abdominoplasty, Blepharoplasty is also in vogue. Blepharoplasty is also a cosmetic surgery performed to regain the firmness of the skin but it pertains to the eyelids. The surgery is done to remove the excess skin above or below the eye that gives it a puffy or a baggy appearance.
Blepharoplasty, however, is not exclusively cosmetic. It is also performed in the cases where the skin of the eyelids is in excess. This extra flesh blocks the eyes, thus, resulting in reduced peripheral vision. Therefore, Blepharoplasty is also a functional surgery to retain vision in some cases.
