MSA Honors Head of Retail and Merchandise Development at The Getty With 2010 Merit Award

Susan DeLand Recognized as Industry Leader for Longtime Commitment to the Museum Store Association

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - May 17, 2010 -
Denver, CO -- The Museum Store Association is pleased to honor Susan DeLand, of The J. Paul Getty Museum, with the MSA 2010 Merit Award. MSA’s outgoing President Meta Devine presented Susan with the Award at the 2010 MSA Retail Conference & Expo in Austin in April.

Susan has been a member of MSA since 1988. In fact, her museum, The Getty, has been a member of the Association since 1959. “Through her service as an active chapter officer and as Treasurer of the MSA board of directors from 2007 to 2009, Susan has taught us all how to think strategically, act locally and volunteer regularly,” says Meta.

Through the years Susan has supported MSA in many ways. She consistently attends MSA chapter and annual meetings, and leads educational seminars on product development and merchandising, UBIT and store planning. As head of retail and merchandise development at The Getty for the past six years, she has created, merchandised and renovated exhibition and core shops with the greatest of ease. She leads by example with her staff, by traveling with them to tradeshows, rolling up her sleeves at MSA’s Members Market and encouraging them to participate in MSA activities.

“Susan is never afraid to ask the tough questions, be it crafting a strategic plan, reviewing a budget or planning an educational session,” says Meta. “MSA continues to benefit from her expertise which she shares with patience, a dry and clever sense of humor, and always, a generous heart.”

MSA is a nonprofit, international association organized to advance the success of museum retail professionals. By encouraging high standards of professionalism, MSA helps cultural commerce professionals better serve their organizations. MSA also is focused on helping increase awareness about museum stores as unique shopping destinations for tourists and cultural travelers.
