May 17, 2010 - PRLog -- May 16, 2010 – Sacramento, Ca – San Diego Boca FC (3-2-0) saw their division-best three game winning streak come to an end, as they took a beating from the Sacramento Gold (4-1-0) at River Hawk Stadium in Sacramento on Sunday.

After the match, San Diego Boca FC Head Coach Papo Santos commented, “We’re still a young side with a lot to learn. This game is a reality check of where we need to improve. We won’t let this showing take us down, as we will learn from it and grow stronger. At the end of the day, if players cannot perform, then we will make the appropriate adjustments. We saw some things that may need to be changed, and now these players know what it takes to be able to play at this level with other top teams in our league. We have to be able to bounce back from lackluster performances, and get back to playing our style of futbol. To Sacramento's credit, they played very well and had some very talented players who all had a very good match today."

The game started off with some early excitement for the boisterous home crowd as Boca FC allowed a goal in the 9th minute. This marks the fourth straight game for Boca FC that they have given up a goal within the first 10 minutes of the match.

San Diego Boca FC answered back almost immediately, as they tied the game at 1-1 in the 11th minute. Rogelio Hernandez sent a well struck cross from the left side into the 18-yard box, finding Sergio Valdez on the back end, whose first touch volley easily beat the diving Sacramento goalkeeper for his first goal of the season.

The game quickly got away from the visitors, though, as defensive miscommunications and miscues created too many scoring opportunities for the Sacramento Gold.  The absence of defender Michael Grba, who was serving a one-game suspension after receiving a red card in the closing minutes of Boca FC’s previous match, was clearly felt. David Ramirez stepped in for Grba on the left, opposite of his normal spot as right defender, and put forth a valiant effort.

Throughout the match the San Diego defense was unable to keep organized well enough to withstand the home team’s attacks, repeatedly leaving Sacramento players unmarked. Boca FC goalkeeper Steve Gonzalez endured a long day, being placed under unrelenting pressure and making numerous big-time saves.

San Diego Boca FC will look to get back to their winning ways when they travel back to Sacramento to compete in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. In the first round of the national tournament, San Diego Boca FC will face each member within its group once, totaling three games during the opening weekend of the competition being held Friday, May 21 through Sunday, May 23, 2010.
