CORONA, Calif. – It is one of the most common disorders affecting more than 20 million Americans, however the exact cause and very little attention has been paid to the affliction. But Corona Chiropractor Dr. Ronald Vogtsberg is on a mission during May to ensure than Southern California residents find out about Neuropathy and is even offering low cost comprehensive exams to help diagnose the disease.
“Many people may be experiencing the symptoms – such as numbness, tingling, abnormal sensations or pain in the hands or feet – without knowing exactly what the problem is,” Dr. Vogtsberg said. “I am trying to get people to be aware during National Neuropathy Week that these symptoms are not at all normal.”
According to an awareness study, only about seven percent of Americans are even aware of what Neuropathy is.
There are actually more than 100 types of Neuropathy known, with about 30 percent linked directly to diabetes. Other causes can be hereditary, autoimmune disorders, tumors, nutritional disorders and even infections. The cause in approximately 30 percent of the cases is never known.
“There really is also no cure for Neuropathy,”
There are actually a number of medications available to help sufferers manage symptoms as well as occupational resources available to accommodate disabilities.
But according to Dr. Vogtsberg, the important thing is to recognize the symptoms early to avoid further damage. To help promote the awareness of Neuropathy, he is offering a Neuropathy Week special rate of $27 for an initial comprehensive exam, including necessary x-rays. Unfortunately, Medicare patients are not eligible for this special offer.
“In the comprehensive exam we will look over the patient, check their family history and them determine if this is a possible case of Neuropathy and plan follow-up testing and care,” Dr. Vogtsberg said. “It will definitely help to have any situation that appears to fall in the symptoms checked out.”
