Recently the CBC consumer program Market Place did a show on grow operations and home inspections. They used Mike Holmes from the TV shows Holmes on Homes and Holmes Inspection as their expert and spoke with people who had unknowingly bought properties that were former grow operations even after having a home inspection. After four home inspections on a former grow op none of them detected it was a grow op.
“This happens all the time where home buyers move into a house and realize it is a former grow house after. The home inspectors do not always detect the problem. Often testing is the only way to find out for sure,” says Brian Mackenzie from ABM Environmental.
Many home buyers unknowingly purchase homes that were used as drug houses in the past and still contain toxic mold or other contaminants. ABM Environmental specializes in former marijuana grow-op testing and investigations to determine if the house was a former grow op. They also provide clearance testing for grow operations that have already been cleaned up.
