NEW YORK—Mark Teixeira getting hot at the plate will not only help the Yankees in their quest to repeat as world champions. Steiner Sports will donate $100 for every home run hit by "Tex" this season, including post-season games, and a variety of charities selected by Teixeira will benefit from Steiner’s “Home Run Club,” which raises money for athletes’ charitable efforts.
Teixeira, known as a slow starter, is already heating up in May. While hitting .319, “Tex” has launched five pitches over the fence, including a long one into the Yankee Stadium right field luxury suites today against Minnesota, for a total of 44 career May home runs. The first baseman has averaged 35 home runs in his seven MLB seasons prior to this year.
“Since arriving in New York, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my relationship with Steiner Sports,” says Teixeira. “Their donation for each home run I hit in 2010 is a tremendous gesture. I truly appreciate their support of such a worthy cause and their shared goal of giving back.”
