1.5 Billion Suffer From High Blood Pressure World-wide

World Hypertension Day to be observed on May 17th

KARACHI:  Statistics regarding hypertension are alarming, as 1.5 billion people are suffering from high blood pressure world-wide. In order to highlight preventable stroke, heart and kidney diseases caused by high blood pressure; World Hypertension Day would be observed on 17th May, across the globe.
Considering the role of obesity in hypertension, the theme selected for World Hypertension Day is “Healthy Weight, Healthy Blood Pressure”. Hypertension is the biggest risk factor for heart diseases, stroke, kidney diseases and diabetes; and is responsible for 7 million deaths every year.
In order to create awareness among the masses regarding hypertension; elite doctors including Dr Khan Shah Zaman – Executive Director NICVD, Prof Dr Abdus Samad & Prof Dr Ejaz Vohra would address a media briefing organized by Macter at Karachi Press Club on Monday, 17th May at 4:00pm.
