May 14, 2010 - When asked why he wrote Energy Vampire Slaying: 101, Dan O’Connor replied: “When I was 21 years old, working with a Chicago brokerage firm, I remember feeling sick every time one particular negaddicted person entered the office and headed my way. I knew the ‘So Dan, I can see by your suit you’ve been out rummage-saling again,’ or ‘Great presentation yesterday; Mel’s eyes glazed over, but he didn’t actually fall asleep’ comments would be pouring out of his mouth. I was younger then, and always handled the situation poorly. I rewarded him by engaging him. I’m older now—and have the training and experience to handle things differently, and be more effective. I wrote the book to help others handle their specific office negativity problems.
