STATE COLLEGE, PA – Maureen L. Mulvihill, President of Piezo Resonance Innovations, Inc (PRII), a Bellefonte-based company, has been named as a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year® 2010 Upstate New York, Western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia Awards. The Ernst & Young (EY) independent judging panel commented, “Dr. Mulvihill truly embodies the entrepreneurial spirit and that’s why she and PRII have been chosen as a finalist.” Dr. Mulvihill has been invited to attend an awards banquet on Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Carnegie Music Hall Foyer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where all the finalists and award recipients will be recognized.
The company’s entrepreneurial efforts in the past 24 months have included receiving eight federal research grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institute of Health (NIH). The NSF funds are being used in the further development of Tube-Clear™; a device that clears clogged and sluggish feeding tubes. The NIH grants are being used to develop four additional medical devices to enhance clinical procedures resulting in improved patient quality of life.
