May 13, 2010 - PRLog -- While the fields of psychiatry and psychology consider ego to be part of one’s mental apparatus, other schools of thought equate ego with being self-centered, commonly demeaned with terms like “big ego,” “egocentric,” “egotistical,” or “being on an ego trip.” There is yet another definition of ego that is the basis of what is coming to be known as the “consciousness movement,” and that definition of ego is “who we think we are as beings.”

While this notion is gradually gaining popularity, few people know what the ego really is; or that ego is the principal source of our unhappiness and suffering; or how to be released from the painful grip it holds on people. A new website, www.beyondtheego.com, aims at helping people understand the nature of ego, why it is important to get rid of it, and how to do so.

The website is an extension of psychologist and spiritual coach Dr. David Mutchler’s path finding book, Beyond the Ego: Where Happiness, Joy, and Peace of Mind Await You, an easy to understand, step-by-step guide from ego to Spirit, where one finds more and more happiness every step of the way. According to Josho Pat Phelan, a Soto Zen Priest, “Dr. Mutchler provides a clear path for strengthening our awareness of the interconnectedness of all things, along with practical methods for letting go of the suffering we experience from a false sense of separation [which is ego].”

The website offers background information on the author and a recorded message about the ego. Interested visitors may even speak with the author directly. Besides the book for sale, visitors to the site can take the help of a detailed Q&A to familiarize themselves with ego. Visitors can also sign up for weekly tips and reminders to transcend ego. They can even sign up for free webinars to learn more about why the ego is such a problem and things they can do to diminish ego’s troubling presence in their life.

About the Author: Dr David Mutchler began his career as an academician, teaching science, mathematics, philosophy and psychology, besides doubling up as a football coach. He currently holds an undergraduate degree in education, masters degrees in philosophy and social work, a doctorate in psychology and has studied religion at the doctoral level.

In addition to teaching and counseling, Dr. Mutchler also founded a consulting and training firm, where he works extensively on matters of the ego with managers and executives as it concerns self-improvement, relationship management, and leadership development.
