Online course in sport psychology begins June 1

May 13, 2010 - PRLog -- A new Montana State University online course in sport psychology begins June 1. The course offers three graduate credits and is ideal for coaches, personal trainers, athletic directors, psychology professionals, and others in healthcare or exercise science.

The course, HHD 552-01, is offered completely online. Students do not need to be enrolled in an MSU degree program in order to take the class. The eight-week course begins June 1 and runs through July 26. Enrollment is limited and early registration is encouraged.

The course will cover basic concepts, behavioral principles, and history of sport psychology; anxiety, arousal, and intervention; motivation, leadership, cohesion, and audience effects; aggression and violence in sport; selected populations including ethnicity, gender, high risk, youth, and elite performance; and coaching psychology. Students will also become acquainted with personality and psychological assessment techniques used in sport.
Another online course for coaches and health professionals, Sport Nutrition (HHD 551-01) also runs from June 1 to July 26.

The instructor for both courses is Michael Meyers, an adjunct professor in MSU's Department of Health and Human Development. Meyers is also a Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine; past president of the Texas regional chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine; and recognized on the Sport Psychology Registry, United States Olympic Committee. He has authored over 75 scientific journal publications, and has given over 350 regional, national and international presentations.
