May 13, 2010 - PRLog -- The rise of mishaps from distracted driving in the U.S. has risen so high and ultimately new efforts have been put into effect to curb the problem. The state and federal laws have banned the use of hand held communication devices, yet more policies are now being enforced to ban the use of wireless devices while driving.

The danger of distracted driving is widely known by drivers, yet they choose to ignore the fact and they are increasingly using hand held devices turning their cars into mobile offices, entertainment centers, or even chat rooms which make the roads more dangerous than ever before.

The data for the hazards of distracted driving as shown by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is quite alarming. It shows that near about 6,000 people have died and more than 500,000 were injured involving in distracted driving accidents in 2008.

Untill now, only some states in U.S. have banned hand held devices. The message has caught the eye of the queen of talk shows Oprah Winfrey, who has partnered with the Governors Highway Safety Association in promoting an awareness campaign known as the ‘No Phone Zone.’ This campaign’s goal is to encourages drivers to stop using cell phones while driving. Safety advocates are putting their hopes up with Winfrey’s star power and they are sure that she will bring the attention of the growing number of distracted drivers.

Apart from this, there are also many companies who have got a zero tolerance policy on using any hand held devices on the road while driving. Congress is regarding legislation to propel all states to ban texting while driving and the federal government has started to encourage all states to ban the use of cell phones behind the wheel.
