Un-Sanctioned Buchanan Event Announced

Summer Kick Off Arts Celebration Announced for Saturday, May 29th, Memorial Day Weekend in Downtown Buchanan Michigan.

May 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Un-Sanctioned features food, wine, shopping, entertainment and fine art offered by artists, artisans, shops, restaurants, stores, galleries and museums. Un-Sanctioned begins at 11am and concludes with downtown "Open Houses" from 6 - 10pm.

On the heels of Un-Sanctioned 2009 which attracted over 1,000 visitors, the event focuses
on expanding the number of contributing artists and musicians, as well as regional artisans, winemakers, antique dealers, art galleries and museums within Buchanan's Downtown National Register Historic District.

2010 Un-Sanctioned artists exhibiting at Harger Park and other venues include Peyton Haggerty Brown (painting), Angela Caldwell, jewelry; Jason Cytacki paintings; Adam Davidson, furniture;  Alan Fore, mixed media paintings; Sandi Kalin, fibers; Kathee Kiesselbach, prints; Amy Beth Geerling Payne, paintings; Teri Robinson, copper & silver jewelry; Christina Root, pottery & jewelry; Sandy Whitewinds, stone jewelry; Dave Wilkinson; stone sculpture; and Jacob Zars, paintings.

The Buchanan Museum of Fine Art features Harry Ahn's painting retrospective, and two early 20th century murals by Edward Buyck (represented in the White House, Vanderbilt and Getty Museum collections), and a collection of 19th & 20th century paintings.  Pears Mill offers tours of its 1857 Greek Revival mill building; the Buchanan Art Center repeats its "Walk thru Raku" where visitors buy a bowl, glaze it, RAKU fire it, and take it home.  Children's Art at the Art Center takes place between noon and 4pm.

Un-Sanctioned also announces new Front Street business openings including, Almost Home, The Sweet Shop, a construction preview of the Union Coffee House all downtown, and "West End Studios" ceramics at 999 W. Front.

Alan Robandt offers objects, mirrors, lighting and furniture, with guest exhibitor Kurt Gippert, bookseller. FRONT exhibits works by Alexander Calder and classic modern home decor. SL Consignment Gallery offers exhibits by Fernwood Botanical Garden and others. Thomas Jolly Home & Garden features English Country and 20th century design.

Buchanan Farmers' Market offers seasonal local produce, herbs, and flowers until 1pm. Sweetie's Sweet Shop provides gourmet popcorn, chocolates and Chicago style sandwiches. First Presbyterian Church of Buchanan features a pie sale, craft bazaar, and washable kid's tatoos.  The Buchanan District Library hold's its kid's "Make it and Take it!" bookmark event from 10am to 3pm, and Impressive Lettering features computerized embroidery and Buchanan apparel sports wear and casual clothing.
