Scared Hitless Looks Great Despite Split Outcome

Anemic offensive production in the latter half of the double header proved to be the downfall.

May 12, 2010 - PRLog -- An impressive crowd turned out to cheer on defending City of Rockville softball champions Scared Hitless as they took the field last night to continue their title defense.  Broome #2 was the venue as the boys in green took on Aftermath.  After two consecutive rainouts, the boys were eager to hit the field.  The first game of the nighttime double header showed Scared Hitless looking to be in midseason form with consistent hitting, pitching and fielding.  A long ball by Chris Ricketts added to the excitement.  Morale was high as the boys easily took the first game 13-9.

The second game proved to be more trouble as the temperature dropped and muscles started to tighten.  “The temperature definitely played a role.  It’s hard to stay motivated and lively through two games when the weather is like this,” said pitcher and former Gold Glover Ben Haddon.  “I guess we just lost some of our pop.”  Neither a late homerun by Chris Ricketts nor a last inning rally was enough to top Aftermath as Scared Hitless fell 8-7.

The offensive leaders of the night were Ben Maggin, Danny Maggin, Kyle Sourk, and Ryan Grant.  Ben Maggin was the most improved hitter from the first to second week reaching base 6 of 7 times bringing his on base percentage to .571 for the season.

The defense remained a vital cog in the Scared Hitless machine preventing the opposing batters from reaching base with anything less than a well placed hit.  Veteran pitcher Ben Haddon used the umpire’s wide strike zone to keep the ball out of the opposing hitters’ wheelhouse.  Despite the split doubleheader, the boys in green looked first-rate and it won’t be long before we see many more tallies in the win column.
