Georgia Tech Savannah to Host 5k Run & Ride to Raise Funds for High School and College Robotics

May 11, 2010 - PRLog -- The Georgia Tech Savannah Robotics Team (GTSR) and the Georgia Tech Savannah High School Robotics Explorer Post are holding a 5K Run and Criterium Bike Ride to help support and establish educational programs and research opportunities in the field of robotics for high school and college students.

The GTSR will participate in the 2010 Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) International Underwater Robotics Competition in Hawaii, June 22-24, 2010. They will be competing with teams from MIT, Purdue, UCLA, Arizona State University, Long Beach City College as well as many international colleges and universities. In 2009, the Georgia Tech Savannah team was among more than 20 collegiate finalists competing in the challenge to design and build ROVs that functioned as submarine rescue systems. The GTSR received the “design elegance” award and was commended for their ROV's design aesthetics, simplicity and functionality.

Proceeds of the Run & Ride will support:
- GTSR’s research, development, and participation in the 2010 MATE international robotics competition.
- workshops to develop a robot to compete in the GTS VEX regional competition for high school students.
