May 12, 2010 - PRLog -- The Sixth Annual Steel Bridge Songfest rocks the city of Sturgeon Bay once again, June 10-13, with musicians performing on more than 15 indoor and outdoor stages. Featured acts include Texas legend James McMurtry, P-FUNK All-stars Kim Manning and Eric McFadden, ten-year-old blues prodigy Tallan Noble Latz, and indie sensation Geri-X, to name a few. The entire lineup includes more than 150 bands and solo artists from around the world.

Citizens for Our Bridge, a non-profit organization hosts the annual volunteer event dedicated to promoting and preserving the historical significance of Sturgeon Bay’s Michigan Street Bridge, a Veterans Memorial. Central to the festivities is the “Construction Zone,” a week-long songwriting frenzy that infuses the festival with a slew of new songs each year. The songs are performed on stage and recorded on site, then made available for sale at local businesses and through the Steel Bridge website:  www.SteelBridgeSongfest.org

"That old steel bridge stands as Sturgeon Bay’s most recognizable icon, and is arguably the most significant structure in Door County," says pat mAcdonald, Steel Bridge co-founder and organizer. "Generations of visitors have recognized it as the doorway to northern Door County. Now, it's been inspiring songwriters, and our growing collection of songs helps immortalize it.”

We started as a grassroots group, called the S.O.B.'s (Save Our Bridge), about 11 years ago, organized to save the historic Michigan Street - Veterans Memorial Bridge from the scheduled wrecking ball. Around 2005, we grew up and into the Citizens for Our Bridge, inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit to organize and manage a long-term plan to raising public awareness and money for needed repairs, maintenance and eventually the complete restoration of the now saved bridge that are not covered by traditional federal or state financing.

To build public awareness, we hold a week long celebration every June, at which songwriters create music and donate their performances and songs to raise funds for the bridge. In 2006, we produced our first CD, "Steel Bridge Songs: Vol.1" , since then we have completed volumes from years Fest. Proceeds from the sale of these CD's and event support the first-of-its-kind Bridge fund held by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
