May 11, 2010 - PRLog -- QUINHAGAK, Alaska – Klondikers came to Alaska in the 1890s lured by gold – risking life and limb to search the big, brawny rivers of the new frontier in search of fortune.

This summer, anglers will come to the Kanektok River in western Alaska in search of silvers – Coho salmon or Oncorhynchus kisutch to be exact. The silvers routinely show up in July by the thousands, filling the remote river for more than a month, ready and willing to take a well-presented fly.

The coho salmon fishing at Deneki’s Alaska West property is good. Fantastic even, which is why just two weeks remain with openings for the 20101 silver season at Alaska West: July 30-Aug. 6 and Aug. 27-Sept. 3.

“The Kanektok has a dependable, phenomenal run of silvers every year,” said Deneki owner Andrew Bennett. “When the silvers show up it becomes a full-on rodeo of jumping fish, grinning guides and anglers sore from catching fish throughout the entire day. And if anybody tires of catching silvers all day, the late season also offers tremendous chances at big, wild rainbow trout.”

Fishing with Alaska West on the Kanektok costs $4,900. That price includes seven nights and six days of guided fishing on the Kanektok, meals, lodging, flies, terminal tackle and loaner gear. In addition, guests tip an average of $500 and purchase their plane tickets between Anchorage and Quinhagak, Alaska for approximately $675.

“Our silver weeks are great values for people who are looking for that opportunity to travel and just about assure themselves of catching fish,” said Bennett. “We stop short of saying anything’s a given, but the Kanektok is a pure coho factory, and with a limited number of rods on the river there’s a chance you’ll catch more fish than you ever thought possible.”

Bennett said the silver weeks are great times for young anglers to gain a lifetime of knowledge and experience in a short time frame.

“If you wanted a time to take a family fishing vacation,” said Bennett, “this is it.”
