On Writing Funny Material
Finding a joke can be very difficult, but my favorite jokes come out from the simplest of topics. As a comedian, you want to point out little things in people's lives that they have  noticed, but never thought to be "funny." Jokes don't have to be  monumental stories of sheer hilarity, they can come from anything, from having an untied shoe, to a love for pop-tarts.

Who Is Your Comedy About?
When it comes to observing people, and finding characters for jokes, you want to find people that your audience can relate to. Everyone has crazy family members, or boring teachers, so as a comedian you want to create a character that  the audience can say, "I know who he's talking about!"

On Timing
Learning timing cannot be taught. It is something that comes from experience and getting used to being in front of an audience. Timing is not a mathematic formula, every audience is different, and in order to time jokes just right, a  comedian has to gauge how the audience is feeling. If an audience is loving a particular joke, stretch it out and have fun with it, if they don't seem to be liking a particular topic, deliver the joke and move on.

Who is your comic hero?
Jim Carey

Where are you getting your start?
Kids 'N Comedy @The Gotham Comedy Club in NYC.

What is  Kids 'N Comedy @ The Gotham Comedy Club in NYC?

Ryan Drum, 15, of Montvale, NJ, and other metro area teens, 11-18,  learn the art of writing and performing stand-up comedy routines.   The very top bananas from the weekly classes are chosen to perform at professional, open-to-the-public monthly shows, hosted by well-known NYC comedians at the famous Gotham.   The next pro show is on Sunday, May 23 at 1 p.m.

Drum, who is in the Advanced group,  is a physical comic and has been likened to a young Jim Carey.
