The Biggest Triathlon Series In The UK Returns To Nantwich For The 19th Year.

May 11, 2010 - PRLog -- The 19th Cheshire Triathlon, supported by Cancer Research UK, is returning to Nantwich on the 23rd May and looks to be one of the biggest events yet.  With the race still a couple of weeks away, already the numbers have passed last year’s charity event.

Last year’s race saw just over 1,000 people taking part, and this year, organisers UK Triathlon are looking to build on that number. “The 2009 race was one of the biggest yet,” says Event Director Vic Bickerton, “and this year, we hope to make it bigger. As we expect many first-timers, we have a fantastic beginners training guide on our website, which will give any novices all the information they need to make sure their race goes without a hitch and enjoy their triathlon experience”

UK Triathlon is encouraging the residents of Nantwich to come down and embrace this fantastic charity event: “the race always attracts lots of observers, with well over 3,000 people coming to watch in 2009, so if anybody wants to come down, or even help out, they’re welcome to. We are always looking for extra volunteers and all helpers are given a goody bag, official race t-shirt, plus a fantastic pair of designer Sundog sunglasses.”

Triathlon has been an Olympic sport since 2000 and is the fastest growing participant sport in the UK.  One of the reasons for its success is it attracts enthusiasts from the 3 different disciplines of swimming, cycling and running. The Cheshire Triathlon acknowledges this by allowing relay teams, where one swims, one bikes and the other runs, to take part in the event.

Not only does the Cheshire Triathlon encourage first time enthusiasts it also has many experienced triathletes taking part, Vic Bickerton says “This triathlon here in Nantwich has been our flagship race for many years, with top triathletes enjoying this well established event. We also have stands around the Barony Park where the event is taking place so there’s plenty to do for any observers.”
