Follow on Google News | Semantic Universe Announces its Call For Entries for its 2010 SemTech Start-Up CompetitionThe program will identify the best-of-breed startups in Semantic Technology and Semantic Web space.
By: Chatterbox PR Ink Dramatic growth in semantics-based products and applications released over the past years is on the rise. Semantic technologies are no longer a discovery of the future. Companies such as Facebook, Apple, Oracle, Yahoo, Microsoft & Thomson Reuters use them today. “There are so many fresh, young innovators who have the potential to take the semantic web to the next level. This Start-Up Competition will showcase their skills,” Steve Bastasini, head of Business Development at Semantic Universe said. Companies encouraged to apply are those with a demonstrable “beta” product in the SemTech and or SemWeb space and who have received no more than a Series A round of financing. The first of which, is based on a popular vote where the top 15 contestants are chosen to move forward. During round two, an interdisciplinary panel of judges will rate the finalists on their competitive and technological advantages, management team, commercial viability, utilization of semantic technology, and innovation. The winner will be announced on June 7, 2010 and will receive a prize package worth $12,000 consisting of a 30-minute speaking slot at the official 2010 SemTech Program (valued at $3,500), one full conference pass for SemTech 2010 (valued at $1,795), and a 2011 Silver Sponsorship package (priced at $7,000). Semantic Universe’s mission is to raise awareness and explain the usage of semantic technologies in business and consumer settings. With this competition, the organization hopes to bring attention to exciting new developments in the semantic technology field. Projects by Semantic Universe include the annual Semantic Technology Conference, the world’s largest, most authoritative conference on semantic technology for consumer and enterprise computing professionals. The annual conference features five days of presentations, panels, tutorials, announcements, new company/product launches, and conversations. It's a place for new learning, professional networking, and business development. This year’s Semtech Conference will take place June 21-25, 2010 at the San Francisco Hilton in Union Square.
