May 11, 2010 - PRLog -- Los Angeles, CA– Semantic Universe is seeking to identify and recognize promising start-ups in the SemTech field.  In partnership with Vator.tv Semantic Universe is hosting its 2010 SemTech Start-Up Competition, which is currently accepting entrants from now until June 6, 2010. Registration for the competition is free. Winners will receive an overall prize package totaling over $12,000.

Dramatic growth in semantics-based products and applications released over the past years is on the rise. Semantic technologies are no longer a discovery of the future. Companies such as Facebook, Apple, Oracle, Yahoo, Microsoft & Thomson Reuters use them today.

“There are so many fresh, young innovators who have the potential to take the semantic web to the next level. This Start-Up Competition will showcase their skills,” Steve Bastasini, head of Business Development at Semantic Universe said.

Companies encouraged to apply are those with a demonstrable “beta” product in the SemTech and or SemWeb space and who have received no more than a Series A round of financing. Companies can be located anywhere but must have the financial means to attend SemTech 2010. To register to the competition please visit http://vator.tv/competition/semtech.

The contest consists of two rounds. The first of which, is based on a popular vote where the top 15 contestants are chosen to move forward. During round two, an interdisciplinary panel of judges will rate the finalists on their competitive and technological advantages, management team, commercial viability, utilization of semantic technology, and innovation. The winner will be announced on June 7, 2010 and will receive a prize package worth $12,000 consisting of a 30-minute speaking slot at the official 2010 SemTech Program (valued at $3,500), one full conference pass for SemTech 2010 (valued at $1,795), and a 2011 Silver Sponsorship package (priced at $7,000).
