Devastating news is seldom met with quiet resolve but that's exactly what you find in the story of Mrs. Reid of South Carolina. Termites have so ravaged her home that the floors are crumbling and her cabinets sag from the weight of the dishes. http://pestcemetery.com/
The long time home was finally mortgage free just last year and things were looking pretty rosy for this up beat 84 year old. That is until earlier this month Charlie Ledford of Ledford Termite and Pest Control Inc. delivered the bad news. Floor joists turned to dust and studs so weak his finger pushed right through. He had to tell Mrs. Reid of the devastating damage from an insect she never saw and it spurred him into action. http://pestcemetery.com/
The local news has broadcast the story and TV anchor Carolyn Murray for WCBD Channel 2 in Charleston is leading a push along with Mr. Ledford seeking any help they can muster for this elderly woman. The damage is so bad according to Mr. Ledford that they have put off treating the termites until a decision can be made as to whether this old house will stand or be torn down. E-mail campaigns and broadcasts of the need have gone out on social sites such as Facebook and Twitter. A donation site has been set up in hopes of raising money to help. Regardless if the modest home gets repair work which will run in the tens of thousands or it's bulldozed and a new structure raised, Mrs. Reid will need much help in the form of donations and rolled up sleeves.
"God is with me, I'm not alone" says this frail but feisty woman as she carefully leans on a badly damage book case. "I'm just not used to needing anyones help." The strength in her voice is clear and the example of love and service could never be more evident. Mrs. Reids faith is much bigger than the insect that has robbed her of her last great possession in life but she makes no excuses. Her trust and belief that good will come of this is truly inspirational and has already called many people to action who might otherwise just treat this as another story of hard luck. Perhaps I'm wrong about her losing anything of value, it may be that her trust in the goodness of this world and beyond is clearly a treasure we should all strive to attain. http://pestcemetery.com/
