The British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) has announced the appointment of Mr Jon Addis as its new Chairman. Mr Addis is Executive Director & Deputy CEO of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad and has served as a BMCC Board Director for the last 18 months.
Outgoing Chairman Datuk Peter Wentworth, OBE, had indicated earlier this year his intention to step down after five years in office. He will continue to serve as a Director on the Board of BMCC.
Accepting the appointment, Mr Addis said, "This is a great honour and I look forward to working with the Directors, the Executive and the Members to build on the many achievements under Datuk Peter's chairmanship. Over the last few years, the BMCC has developed a growing reputation for its advocacy of the interests of its members, as well as for holding quality events. The Board aims to continue this process and I am sure that, with the support of the membership, BMCC will continue to go from strength to strength.”
Speaking on behalf of the BMCC Board, Deputy Chairman Steven Foster said, “We would like to thank Datuk Peter for his energetic and inspired leadership over the last five years which has seen the Chamber evolve into a business-minded organisation with the interests of the members at its core.”
In the first of a series of upcoming BMCC events, Mr Addis will host the Britain In South East Asia (BISEA) Conference, being held in Kuala Lumpur, which brings together representatives of bilateral British chambers from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia and Cambodia.
This will be followed by the BMCC's Annual General Meeting in June.
