Centennial Open House At Historic New England’s Phillips And Gedney House

Historic New England is opening all properties for the first time on the same day on June 5, 2010.

May 10, 2010 - PRLog -- You are invited to join Historic New England at its Salem properties on June 5, 2010 from 11-4 for our Centennial Open House. Visitors will enjoy free admission and birthday surprises throughout the day. Historic New England members who are participating in the new passport program are especially welcome to join us for the day and membership discounts will be available to those interested in joining or renewing.

The Phillips House, located on 34 Chestnut Street, was built in 1821 and its filled with five generations of family artifacts including art, antiques, furnishings, carriages, and cars. Tours last 45 minutes and are available on the half-hour.

The Gedney House, located at 21 High Street, was built in 1665 and demonstrates how first period houses were constructed. Tours last approximately 50 minutes and are available on the hour.

This is the first time in Historic New England’s 100 year history that all properties have been open to the public at one time. Other local locations participating in the open house include Beauport in Gloucester, the Boardman House in Saugus, the Coffin House in Newbury, Cogswell’s Grant in Essex, the Dole-Little House in Newbury,  the Rocky Hill Meeting House in Amesbury, the Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm in Newbury, and the Swett-Ilsley House in Newbury.
