North Norfolk-based PR agency The Publicity Works has been helping out local rock band The Sharps in their bid to win ‘Live & Unsigned 2010’, a national competition with big prizes including a gig at the O2. Amongst the judges are top music industry figures including Radio 1 DJs such as Annie Nightingale.
The Sharps are four boys, all 19 and 20 year olds who originally met at Aylsham High School. They are now at university or in gap years.
Part of the competition was to gain as much exposure for the band (and thus Live & Unsigned) as possible, with big prizes up for grabs for maximum media coverage.
With help from http://publicityworks.biz The Publicity Works, The Sharps won the media exposure competition, grabbing £900-worth of Marshall amplification.
In the main competition, the band got through two rounds but their drummer broke his arm just days before the semi final. A substitute was drafted in but the band just missed out on a slot in the O2 gig. Even so, several of the judges singled them out for praise.
“Winning the exposure award is a bit of compensation for missing out on the final and we’d like to thank TPW for all their hard work,” said The Sharps’ guitarist Darby Dorras.
