Keidi Keating, an expat living in Spain, describes where to buy British food in Spain…
The supermarkets in Spain are rather boring compared to those in the UK, and the choice on the shelves is fairly limited.

The price of the food isn’t a whole lot different. An average weekly supermarket bill for a single adult is around 35€ a week, compared to around 30 pounds in the UK.

The most famous supermarket chains in Spain are Eroski, Carrefour, Mercadona and Supersol. Most of them now stock international foods to cater for the increasing numbers of expats, but none of them don’t stock the range that is available in the UK. Many expats living in Spain find they have to compromise and try some of the local brands, or even go without certain things.

“Like most of us, I tend to go supermarket shopping once a week,” said Keidi. “This usually always occurs on a different day, as I’m opposed to routine. My whole life in the UK revolved around routine, so now that I’m out of it, I want to stay out!

“If you really can’t bear to be without your cornish pasties, or your fave brand of chicken kievs, then depending on what area of Spain you live in, there may be an English foodshop or two. In this area I can think of at least five off the top of my head. But do bear in mind that these can be pricey alternatives. There is also an Iceland in the really English area of the Costa del Sol, where you could quite happily do all your supermarket shopping. I haven’t been there personally, but I know my sister nips there from time to time to stock up!”

For expats who live on the Costa del Sol, Gibraltar is within driving distance, where there’s a Morrisons supermarket.
