May 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Designer Metis Tarta-Steck has established a new concept in living, blending art and furniture design to create ESVEDRA: a completely avant-garde take on furniture design. This international art furniture studio presents collectors with the chance to own one-of-a-kind Teak wood pieces from their portfolio as well as participate in the process by inspiring their own Wood Couture replete with designated serial numbers, much in the same way as with high fashion.

The ESVEDRA lifestyle focuses on the concept of creating unique furniture pieces that fall into the categories of art and fashion rather than those of mere interior design, pleasantly limiting expectations to taste, innovation, and aw. ESVEDRA designs are carved from Teak wood, one of the strongest and most beautiful timbers, and finished in a way that nobody would expect; the application of colors, patterns, and materials to this wood is an expression of the Haute Couture way of living that ESVEDRA exudes. Moreover, their use of this tropical timber, communicative of ESVEDRA’s organic mindset, is effective in producing incredibly durable pieces, livable indoors and outdoors. The design boutique has created a collection of pieces that, like most artwork, summon the collector for which they were intuitively made, “When you love fashion, you need to have it,” says ESVEDRA creator Metis.

ESVEDRA gives new heights to the consumer’s perception of living in art. The showroom alone—not a showroom at all— broke away from traditional standards when Metis and her husband Oliver, who acts as strategic advisor to the company, decided to move from the expected comfort nook of the Design District to a home in Miami Beach. This impressive setting allows clients to experience a living environment in which pieces like their signature Buddha heads, that weigh in excess of 500lbs, and a 10ft long hot pink table with a Swarovski crystal skull, exist in their element— “We felt it was better that people could come in by private appointment and live with the pieces to experience them in a space that could be much like their own homes rather than the sterile environment of the expected, and to this point, it has really worked to our favor to have made that choice,” explains Metis.

The ESVEDRA collection boasts much more than originality in design and hand crafted production. Their use of unexpected mediums, like automotive paint, is already characteristic of the brand, manipulating the material in such a way that it acts as a sealant, ensuring durability and indoor/outdoor versatility— “There is an array of finishes offered such as matte, high gloss or candy, finished with different additives like Swarovski gems, exotic leathers, fashion buttons, and of course always adorned by tremendous patterns and designs. The ESVEDRA customer has unlimited options to custom fit any piece to their own style and specifications,” continues Metis.

Pieces by ESVEDRA are infused with the sophistication of their worldly designer. Having moved 11 times in the past 14 years, Metis declares a passion for living in new surroundings and designing new pieces that inevitably translates into her creations, even naming the company after a Spanish landmark whose tale states that when the world sinks, only Es Vedra will remain. At the moment though, she and her husband are proud to have settled in Miami Beach, drawing inspiration from a city that demands nothing less than the bold designs of ESVEDRA.
