Lithia, FL – May 2010 - It all started in a Tampa suburb a few years ago, right after the home builder company Carrie Ose-Skaggs worked for downsized due to the housing decline. At the time of the layoff, she was pregnant with her first child. Despite Carrie's efforts, she found no one eager to hire a pregnant woman, even with her extensive marketing and PR background. Carrie grew discouraged with the interview process. As soon as any company learned of her pregnancy, the opportunities came to a screeching halt. She soon discovered that she needed to find a job that would offer a positive work/ life balance, allowing her to excel in both being a great mom & a successful business women.
"Even back then," Carrie said, "I knew someday I would have my own business, where I could balance both with great success!"
Shortly after the layoff, Carrie had her son. Her intention had always been to go back to work, but things can change in an instant. Her newborn son wound up going into the hospital at two months old, and staying there for over a month. The threat of losing a child really changed Carrie forever in terms of her priorities and career goals. After that traumatic ordeal, she could not leave him ~ her world changed in an instant.
"I knew more than ever now that nothing in life is more fragile than life itself," Carrie said, "and that nothing in my life was more important to me than getting my son healthy and keeping him that way."
With the support of her husband, the choice was made for her to stay home to care for their son and the early ideas of SproutGear began to "sprout". SproutGear’ s launch was temporarily derailed once again, only this time for a happier occasion ~ the birth of Carrie's daughter. Finally with two very young & active children always on the go, SproutGear finally took flight and they have never looked back! Combining Carrie's love of children's fashion, a diverse background in fashion retail & merchandising, marketing and print promotions along with her husband’s 15 years of computer, IT and internet webpage knowledge, the vision for their online boutique began to flourish!
“After the illness of my first child and the birth of my second, staying home to raise them but yet still providing for my family became my driving force.” Carrie said, “SproutGear affords me an opportunity that no other corporate job could. The day to day joy of being a mom when the kids need me most, and also still being a part of what I have most enjoyed in my career – working with children’s fashion, marketing and promotions."
Thus, Carrie is proud to announce the arrival of their family's newest addition, www.SproutGear.com.
