On April 2nd the board of Directors of the RC Atkins/Handyman Matters Memorial Scholarship Foundation awarded Mr. Kal Gossett from Corning, New York, a trade scholarship for his continued education in Electrical Technology. Mr. Gossett has been accepted into the Electrical Technology program at Lincoln Technical Institute in East Windsor, CT where he plans to begin his studies in August of this year. After his 15 month program is complete, he plans to enter the field as an apprentice to gain field experience before he sits for his Journeyman’s Electrical licensing exam.

The selection committee considers the application, financial need, funding available, and the scholarship program’s primary element of “learning and practicing a skilled trade as a career objective” when making its decisions. A skilled trade is recognized as a learned skill or occupation that generally requires physical work. Examples related to the building and construction trades would include, but not be limited to: Electricians, Masons, Carpenters, Plumbers, Welders, HVAC Technicians, Arborists, etc.
