PRLog (Press Release) - May 07, 2010 -
Samsung have unveiled their new Android OS handset, the i9000 Galaxy S, a very high specification phone aiming to give the user the ultimate smartphone experience.

The display featured on the Samsung Galaxy S is one of the highest quality available on the mobile handset market.  Measuring a huge 4inches, this Super AMOLED screen boasts a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, backed up by the capability of displaying 16 million colours.  The Super AMOLED screen technology not only provides a much deeper and natural black colour, but the screen is now constructed from a single sheet, meaning a much thinner profile in addition to improved viewing angles.  Being a capacitive touchscreen is as responsive as you would expect from such a unit.  The customary proximity sensor and accelerometer chip are included, so accidentally cutting off phone calls is prevented and the phone auto rotates when turned.  This massive touchscreen is housed within the 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9mm.  The first two of these measurements are nothing spectacular, but the 9.9mm depth is impressive.  Weighing in at 118 grammes the handset feels lighter than you would expect.  A glance beneath the screen and you will find three buttons, less than on other Android handsets, but nonetheless keeping everything looking very neat.

The camera facility on the Samsung Galaxy S, like the rest of the handset, is an impressive affair.  The 5 million pixel unit takes a good quality of image, and this is made easier to achieve for the user by the addition of an autofocus, as well as handy other features such as face and smile detection and geo tagging.  Where the Galaxy stands out is its ability to capture video footage in 720p, High Definition quality.  This is a big advantage in a world where every television and computer is high definition.  This video footage is captured at an impressive rate of 30 frames per second.  The Galaxy S comes complete with either 8GB or 16 GB of internal memory, backed up by a microSD card slot up to 32GB, plenty of room for the memory hungry HD footage.  A powerful ARM Cortex A8 1Ghz processor means the handsets handles all tasks very well, loading speeds are good and the whole Android OS v2.1 runs incredibly smoothly.  In terms of connectivity, 3G, GPRS and Edge are all supported in addition to WiFi, so the user can always be kept in touch with e mails and internet.  In terms of more local connectivity the handset features both a micro USB as well as the latest Bluetooth, version 3.0.

It is obvious that the Samsung Galaxy S is pitched right at the top of the Android phone market.  And in fairness thanks to its superb screen and impressive feature list, this truly looks like a handset worth challenging the best currently available.
