The Cinema City International On-Line Film Festival Announces Monthly First Quarter Winners.
The Cinema City International On-Line Festival’s panel of judges is proud to announce the January, February and March First Quarter Festival Winners. The festivals boast cinematic works by screenwriters and directors from around the world, serving as a showcase inspiring provocative cinema by emerging talents within the industry.
JANUARY WINNERS
Stan Freeman is the recipient of the January Gold Award for “One Pitch For Glory”. Stan Freeman is a graduate of Cornell University and attended the MFA program in fiction writing at University of Massachusetts in Amherst. His short stories have appeared in several literary magazines and he won a fiction writing fellowship from the Massachusetts Council on the Arts and Humanities.
The winner of the Silver Award is Jomo Merrit for his screenplay, “August Sweeney: The Monster Barber of Harlem.” Jomo received a BA in Anthropology and a Masters degree in School counseling. The Monster Barber of Harlem is a cautionary urban tale read by a grandfather to his trouble bound grandson which may not be a fairy tale at all. Jomo has also written six other feature length screenplays.
Courtney Shalmaine Atkins received the Bronze award for her screenplay, “The Virtuous One”. Courtney is a graduate of Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, Mississippi. Courtney helped to establish a small independent film group called “Keep It Movin”.
January winners for best short screenplay are, Lee Welch who received a Gold Award for “Rex Americana and J.Jeff Hillard winning a Silver Award for “Mum Goes to Mars”. Hillard has been writing screenplays for several years. He’s currently working on a feature length action adventure screenplay set in Asia.
FEBRUARY WINNERS
Meg Belviso and Craig Slivka won a gold award in Best Screenplay Category. Craig received a BA in Theater from the University of Rhode Island. Meg Belviso received a BA from Smith College and an MFA in Screenwriting from Columbia University. Jeff Lewis captured the Silver Award for “Hells Bells”. Best short feature category, Gold Award went to Steve Horswill-Johnston for “Running Back to Forward.”
MARCH WINNERS
March winners for Best Screenplay (Gold) “Meet Me in the Morning” by Michael Lukaszewicz, Michael is a writer and Musician living in Wisconsin. He is currently working on a new script and recording an album with his band, The Canvasmen”. Silver award went to Steve Warren for Honor Thy Father. Best Documentary (Gold) “A Long Haul by Nathaniel Kramer. Nathanial is a cinematographer, director, editor, producer and professional photographer. His photos have appeared in magazines around the world. His passing for fishing inspired him to make his first film.
Best Feature, Gold Award went to Justin Evans for “A Lonely Place For Dying”. Justin started a theater company when he was 14 years old. He is the only undergraduate in NYU’s history to complete a feature film while still in school. He is the founder and former CEO and Creative Director of Mystic Arts in Beijing. Justin has won several previous awards as a filmmaker.
