Dubbed the “granddaddy of ‘em all” for tattoo and “kustom culture,” the 2010 festival will feature over 280 tattoo artists from around the world, hot rods, pin-ups and pole performers, as well as live music from legendary headliners in the punk rock, rockabilly, Americana, and psychobilly scene. Varla Magazine has chosen the event to kick-off its return to publishing after a two-year hiatus.
Events and prizes will be awarded in nearly every category of the show. Tattoo artists will compete each day for Italian silver sacred hearts framed under glass, some of which are a century old.
The Hot Rods & Kustoms show will award 9 trophies in an array of categories. Cars are strictly hand-picked, must be pre-1963, and should be appropriate to the era. In 2009, the festival featured 200 different cars and attracted a crowd of more than 18,000.
Another major draw includes the beautiful ladies of Ink-N-Iron. The Pin-up Pageant awards the highest cash prize of any pin-up pageant in the country and hosts contestants from around the USA and Europe. The festival also hosts a tantalizing Leg Show, “Carnal Cabaret,” featuring top burlesque performers.
Varla Magazine is also proud to sponsor a new addition to this year’s festival, the “International Pole Performer Showcase,” in which 8 sexy performers from around the world will demonstrate their talents on a 15-foot high pole. Throughout the festival be sure to spot Varla Girls http://www.varla.com/
For music and movie fans, Ink-N-Iron will not disappoint. Live performances by punk rock, rockabilly, Americana, and psychobilly bands will be complimented by screenings of “Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!” as well as “Beat Girl & Drag Strip Girl.” (Fans of Varla Magazine know that Tura Satana's portrayal of Varla in "Faster Pussycat" was the inspiration behind the magazine's name.)
“We are really excited about sponsoring and being part of this year's Ink-N-Iron festival,” says Rachel Varla, founder and publisher of Varla Magazine. “Our next issue is coming out with a BANG! Ink-N-
