May 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Clearwire has announced plans to launch two WiMAX-enabled smartphones by the end of the year. The carrier has yet to disclose specific details of which models, although the smartphones are said to be manufactured by Samsung and HTC.

The Samsung handset will support 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity, while focusing on “heavy video and video conferencing use.” The HTC device will offer the same connectivity options.

Following recent 4G expansion into Central Pennsylvania and Houston, Texas, the carrier suggests 19 more markets are on the way this summer. Newly announced markets include cities in Tennessee, Florida, New York, Delaware, California, Michigan, Oregon, and Washington.

Clearwire expects its total subscriber base to triple in 2010 from the end of 2009, expanding to reach 2 million customers. The new cities are said to expand the company’s 4G network to cover 120 million people by the end of the year.
