May 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be Robin Hood? To explore and experience the forest? Would you and your band of Merry Men like to soar down the zip wires? Sherwood, the very place where Robin Hood stole from the rich and gave to the poor is also home to Go Ape, open half term (31st May- 4th June), the perfect family day out.

We all know the story of Robin Hood and his Merry Men but an outing to Go Ape can really make you feel as fearless as the man himself and as brave as Maid Marian, overcoming obstacles, balancing on tree tops and taking on challenges. Your day will be transformed into an adrenaline filled adventure that would leave even Robin Hood breathless.

Ridley Scott’s fifth collaboration with actor Russell Crowe brings us an adaptation of the 1991 Kevin Costner tear-jerker. With scenes shot in Sherwood Forest, the new Robin Hood epic comes to the Mansfield Odeon on May 12th and is set to be the blockbuster of the summer. It chronicles Robin Hood’s plight to save Sherwood Forest from the corruption of Nottingham’s nasty Sheriff, whilst trying to win the hand of Maid Marian, played by Cate Blanchett.

The release of the new film will bring visitors flocking to Nottinghamshire and where else better to spend the day than at Go Ape, exploring Robin Hood’s legendary stomping ground. Sherwood Forest is home to one of Go Ape’s 26 tree top adventures where trekking 40ft above the forest floor invigorates your fun-loving monkey in ways you just can’t imagine. It’s a real-time adventure where you can take a walk on the wild side and get to grips with a giant obstacle course of ladders, bridges, tunnels, walkways and wind-in-your-face zip wires. A perfect place for overcoming fears of height and just feeling utterly exhilarated, Go Ape will have you smiling (and perhaps screaming) all day. If only it was around in Robin Hood’s time, Sherwood would have been a much happier place, with a lot less fighting and a lot more bonding!

You’re not likely to be hit by any stray arrows but Go Ape still takes safety seriously, they do their best to minimise risks and before starting your challenge there is a safety briefing and you’ll be given harnesses, pulleys and karabiners.

Just like Robin Hood, Go Ape appreciates the beauty of the forest and courses are designed to minimise impact on trees, habitats are created for wildlife and Go Ape offers an eco-educational experience that combines fun and adventure with sustainable activity: http://www.goape.co.uk/get-to-know-us/our-environment.
