Long Term Assistance for Haiti

PRLog (Press Release) - May 5, 2010 - The Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. has assisted in sending two 14 foot moving vans full of supplies to Haiti. "This maybe small compared to other efforts however it represents a major step for our organization," says Hadayai Majeed Co-founder and Administrator.  This small non-profit with almost 400 followers on Facebook and about 200 loyal financial supporters has grown from an all volunteer group to now paying two staff people and managing an office.  "Many of our supporters are not wealthy people.  They are survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.  Many have had to start over from square one.  “For most of them to be able to take care of themselves, their families and also give regularly to a charity is amazing, says a volunteer who prefers to remain annoymous. "It is not unusual for us to get donations of $2.00-$3.00 per month from some of our supporters," states Abdul H. Abdullah CFO of the organization.

The organization is requesting assistance from those who read their updates to make a trip to the dollar store and spend at least $1.00 to help the survivors of the earthquake in Haiti make it through the rainy season.  We are working with Transform Haiti a program of the Haitian Alliance to get shipments of supplies to the devastated country on a monthly basis.  We also have direct contact with Masjid at-Tawheed in Haiti and will be assisting the Islamic community in the country in a more direct manner via Transform Haiti program staff.

We must not forget that the people of Haiti will need us for a long time. They are like survivors of domestic abuse starting all over again from scratch. Their resilience, faith and enduring spirit along with genuine and sincere assistance from people who care will get them through this challenge in their lives.
