The second case study focuses on the innovative UK organic muesli company, Alara Wholefoods.  Alara has adopted a rigorous approach to waste management across its supply chain and, as a result, became the first zero waste manufacturer in the UK in 2009.  Alara strives to reduce waste by wrapping pallets in the thinnest material possible; reuse waste by using plastic sacks that ingredients have arrived in as recycling bags; and recycling waste by using a baler to compact film wrapping from incoming pallets for transport to a recycling facility.
