In First Album Project: Brazen Stir CD Release

Body: In the midst of college life and acquiring respective degrees, 5 individuals have come together to create their first, full music album. Brazen Stir, formerly called Ethos, has been working for a full year towards accumulating self-written material in order to make their first permanent step in the music industry. It all started when Kevin Brown, a Psychology Major and Creative Writing Minor, at the University was plucking away at his guitar, piecing together chord progressions and lyrics freshman year. He then encountered Darius Artiola, a Sociology and Spanish Literature Major, who had his own distinct vocal background growing up in the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus. They collaborated on a few songs, but decided the music would not be complete without the help of a richer, more empowering sound.
Kevin knew of some musicians who had all worked together in their high school days playing at local venues such as Skrappy’s and had the prior experience to make the music come into fruition. Doug Carrol (drummer), a Regional Development Major, Johny Vargas (lead guitarist), a Music Major, and Kyle Craft Schipfer (bass), a Geography major all came together to create Brazen Stir. Being that each of these five men came from distinct musical backgrounds such as punk, classic rock, reggae, and indie, it was at first challenging to conform the sound of the band as a whole; over time they have formulated a well-rounded style.
In a little over a year Brazen Stir has performed over 30 shows with notable bands such as Mostly Bears, Holy Rolling Empire, and Transfer (San Diego). They finished 3rd in the SRP Garage Band Competition up in Phoenix hosted by Entertainment Solutions; they are featured in Zia Record’s “You Heard Us When Volume 4”, a compilation of local artists, and are also planning a West Coast tour this summer. The group teamed up with a few musicians for this project and the album is produced and recorded by Craig Schumacher at WaveLab Studios who works with Calexico, Neko Case, and Devotchka. Needless to say Brazen Stir is excited to release the album and continue on their musical endeavors together. Join them May 7th at O’Malley’s to celebrate and enjoy the live sound of their self-titled album, Brazen Stir.
