Slip into a forgotten era when fire prohibition was in full effect, and the frigid masses were forced underground to seek HEAT. Gather in The Crucible's fire speakeasy, where bootleg fire boils the blood and enflames the desires of all who enter. The Crucible’s 56,000 square-foot studio space will be transformed into a searing underground haven where fantasy and fire converge with sultry music and machinery.
Some of the best talent in the Bay Area will perform amidst artisans plying their fiery trades, and guests will be invited to explore a speakeasy alight with furnaces, forges and flames. Kim Nalley, internationally known as one of world's best jazz and blues vocalists with her beguiling combination sass, soul and smarts is the reigning diva of HEAT. The aerial artistry of Scarlett & Axelrod, plus featured performances by Gravity Plays Favorites, Jennings McGowan & Weng Xiao Hong, and more ensure a hot and spicy evening of entertainment.
“We are excited to present for the first time, theatrical demonstrations that truly melt the boundary between the industrial arts and entertainment,”
Guests are encouraged to participate by dressing in their Deco best... flappers, dandies, gangsters and molls are all welcome visitors to Heat. It's the Jazz Age, the hot 20's, when women were wild, men were wicked and boundaries were pushed to the limit. In keeping with the experiential nature of the evening, guests will be able to browse through an assortment of fire sculpture that is outlawed in most places or strike a pose for photos in front of 1920’s & 1930’s bootleggers vehicles from the collection of Jim Callahan, or step into the “notorious photoboof” and see what photos strips come out.
The Crucible’s annual Fire & Light Soirée and Art Auction will take place Thursday, July 15, 2010, at 6PM, where guests will enjoy a delicious three-course dinner and a live art auction featuring exquisite works by top Bay Area artists before enjoying an exclusive premiere performance of HEAT: A Fire Cabaret.
