The Art of Peace Charitable Trust (AOPCT) will be in Rochester, NY, May 6, 2010, filming interviews for a documentary addressing the issue of illegal weapons. The documentary will premiere in conjunction with the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence, May 10-16, 2010. Through the auspices of the Secretariat:
Lin Evola, founder of AOPCT, will interview Rochester Chief of Police David Moore and other area residents directly affected by illegal weapons.
“We want to draw attention to the issue of illegal firearms and innovative ways they can be destroyed,” explains Lin Evola. “Rochester is known for creative crime reduction programs and we want this documentary to lay the groundwork for future partnerships.”
AOPCT has the support of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the New York Police Department, and New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Lin Evola’s efforts have been endorsed by the United Nations Department of Disarmament and lauded by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
The Art of Peace Charitable Trust evolved from the Peace Angels Project, which was founded in 1992. AOPCT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving the public interest by interrupting the cycle of violence and actualizing change on a local, regional, and national basis. The mission of AOPCT is to recast surrendered weapons as public sculptures to inspire and support global peace.
