May 4, 2010 - PRLog -- The trade body’s three day course is suitable for surveyors requiring general knowledge of potential issues surrounding damp buildings and damp proofing - and students studying for the Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatment (CSRT) examinations.

Day one focuses on timber properties, decay and insect infestations, day two on dampness, diagnosis and remedial treatment, and day three on health and safety and other relevant legal issues.

Delegates will undertake in-depth study on topics including methods of treatment of timber infestations and fungal decay, the causes and effects of dampness in buildings, treatment of rising damp, Health and Safety Executive Control of Substance Hazards to Health (COSHH) requirements and survey reporting.

Candidates can attend the whole course or individual days as required. Training is open to PCA members and non-members.

The PCA is running the course at the King Robert Hotel in Stirling.

Noted for its technical expertise, the PCA represents the UK’s damp control, timber preservation, structural waterproofing, structural repair and flood recovery sectors.

The PCA is a major educational provider, delivering training that is varied in content for property professionals.

Stephen Hodgson, general manager of the PCA, said: “It is not necessary to be a member of the PCA to access all courses. Staff from a wide range of organisations have benefited from our training including estate agents, architects, social housing managers and surveyors.”

Notes to Editors

The Property Care Association (PCA) represents the UK’s damp control, timber preservation, structural waterproofing, structural repair and flood recovery sectors.

It incorporates the British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association (BWPDA), which has been in formation for more than 75 years.

The PCA is a member of TrustMark the scheme supported by the Government, to help property owners find reliable and trustworthy trades people to make home improvements.

Its contractor members are all carefully vetted before being awarded membership - and are then subject to rigorous auditing procedures once admitted to the Association.

As well as delivering a trusted repair procedure, PCA members are able to carry out specialist surveys as part of the house-buying procedure to identify potential problems – as well as a range of other services  designed to preserve and protect homes and buildings across the UK.

To find a PCA member log on to www.property-care.org and select the ‘Find A Member’ service.
