KBN announces a new program to fight childhood obesity in the classroom.

“Give Kids a Future! Give Kids a Book!” The Kids’ Book Network has launched a new effort to help fight childhood obesity by replacing high-fat, cavity-causing candy as classroom prizes with all-healthy, no-calorie free books.

May 10, 2010 - PRLog -- “It’s time to take candy out of the classroom,” said KBN CEO Uncle Henry today, “and find a better way to reward children for excellence that doesn’t give them health problems for the rest of their life.”
“Starting today we want to see teachers give to every child who gets an A on an exam – or First Place in a spelling bee or a science experiment – something better as a prize than empty calories. We want to see that child get a free book.
“Too many teachers still don’t understand that all of the books on our KBN website at http://www.read4free.net are completely free.
“No subscription fees, no cost to kids and teachers at all.
“That’s why it’s so important for school district administrators and other educators to wake up and help us get the word out to every teacher in every classroom in America with our new classroom health campaign. Our new health message is simple.
“Give Kids a Future! Give Kids a Book!”
Mini-size candy bars are very popular with children today. But just two mini bars the size of your thumb, as Uncle Henry demonstrated, contain 120 calories, with 53 calories from obesity-enhancing saturated fat. If you give a child, instead, the classroom reward of just one 48-page KBN minibook picture book the child gets zero calories, with no saturated fats, and the fun of 100 laughs.
“No fat, all fun,” said Uncle Henry.
“It’s time for educational administrators to catch on and help us get the word out. KBN is all about free books for every child in the world, and reading is about the future of all of the world’s children.
“Of course KBN is changing rapidly, too, thanks to kids and teachers everywhere. In the classroom, for example, kids and teachers can now read KBN’s live bookcasting™ books together every day, projected right on the wall. Plus they can also actually download the same live bookcast books and then print and form them into real on-paper, page-turning books to read, share, trade and take home to read, too. All different kind of books, in all different sizes.
   “And all for free.
“Our growing library of books will now begin to accelerate more rapidly, with more international authors and books in every genre.
“We will of course continue to publish many more of our signature all-family, all-level picture books. No other publisher today can match their charm and style. But we will also begin to introduce more edgy action and adventure books for young adults, plus many more of the best classics.”
