Following the Transocean Deepwater Horizon rig explosion, 11 crewmembers went missing and are presumed dead, and countless others suffered physical and psychological injury.
Mr. Beckcom's firm, Vujasinovic & Beckcom, PLLC, which represents injured oil rig workers and maritime employees against companies such as Transocean and BP throughout the world, has been closely monitoring the investigation and legal developments and has been fielding calls from the media, clients, and other attorneys.
While monitoring events following the Deepwater Horizon rig disaster, Mr. Beckcom discovered that Transocean has already begun putting together its legal team. Apparently, through intermediaries, Transocean has been asking crewmembers to sign releases and give recorded statements, and there are rumours that the companies have been sequestering crewmembers and suggesting they avoid contacting attorneys.
"I've learned recently that Transocean has already begun putting together its legal team and may be asking crewmembers to do things that could impact their legal rights. If true, I believe this is inappropriate and unfair to the crewmembers and their families. I decided to put together a report exclusively for crewmembers and their families to help them level the playing field somewhat. I am giving it away for free with no obligations and no strings attached."
"The environmental damage and property damage appears like it will be massive. I do not want the crewmembers and their families to be forgotten and I'd like to see some serious effort made to get to the bottom of what happened and figure out how to prevent these kinds of tragedies from happening again, and to strengthen laws so that crewmembers are encouraged to report safety violations and don't need to be afraid of getting blackballed or fired if they do."
