By: Dennis H Those were the days before chemicals invaded our air, water, soil and lives. Fast forward to present day. We can't drink from streams until we test & treat the water, our air needs to be filtered in our homes to be safe from toxins, outside the home our air is full of toxins, the soil has heavy metals, toxins & many contaminates that our fruits, vegatables & proteins consume daily. What happened, why and can we change it? What happened Back in 1970 the food industry said that there is no difference between a man made chemical and a natural source so they started putting chemicals in the food, water and soil. not only that but this brought a high demand for chemicals to be produced which put the chemicals in the air we breath. Why? There are many reasons, none that should of been allowed. From trying to expand on mother nature, thinking we could do better. To Making more money at the expense of our bodies and lives contracting serious illnesses in the process. The point is no matter what the reasons the list is long when it comes to why? Can we change it ? Yes! we can change it. But first we need to become educated. When your armed with knowledge, nothing is impossible to overcome. First we need to know about the chemicals that's in our food, water, air, soil and we're using in our homes today, so lets start there. In Our Homes 81,000 CHEMICALS REGISTERED WITH THE EPA IN THE LAST 30 YEARS, and fewer than 20% have been tested for toxicity! FACT: 90% of all poison exposures occur at home FACT: 90% of our time is spent indoors. EPA reports that air pollution is up to five times higher inside than outside FACT: Indoor pollutants come from all sorts of chemicals we use to make our lives easier every day—paints, carpets, furniture, household cleaners, personal care, among others FACT: EPA studies indicate that elevated concentration of household chemicals persist in the air. Long-term exposure to chemicals inside our homes may be harmful to us and our families FACT: Some 20 million Americans have asthma FACT: An average of one out of every 13 school-aged children has asthma FACT: Asthma rates in children under age five have increased more than 160% from 1980-1994 FACT: Common household cleaners and appliances give off fumes, which can potentially increase the risk of children developing asthma “We are conducting a vast toxicologic experiment in our society, in which our children and our children’s children are the experimental subject.” Dr. Herbert Needleman Pediatrician and Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. FACT: The average U.S. household generates more than 20 pounds of hazardous waste each year FACT: The following household cleaning products are designated as household hazardous waste by the EPA, and “improper disposal of these wastes can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health” Oven cleaners Drain cleaners Wood and metal cleaners and polishes Toilet cleaners Tub, tile, and shower cleaners Bleach (laundry) WHAT’S UNDER YOUR SINK?
