May 3, 2010 - PRLog -- WAYNE, Pa., — New England Forestry Foundation (NEFF) has selected Finite Carbon Corporation, the forest carbon development company that provides a single-source solution for creating and monetizing carbon credits, to develop an Improved Forest Management project in New Hampshire.

Finite Carbon has submitted the project, which involves 2,100 acres of the Hersey Mountain Forest in New Hampton and Sanbornton, N.H., for listing under the Climate Action Reserve’s (CAR) updated Forest Project Protocol. Once it is CAR listed, it will be expected to generate more than 30,000 carbon offsets in a 10-year period. This collaboration with Finite Carbon is NEFF’s foray into developing forest carbon offsets.

New England Forestry Foundation, founded in 1944, is recognized as a leader in conserving working forests, educating the public about forestry, and assisting landowners in the long-term protection and sustainable management of their properties. The foundation owns and cares for 130 demonstration forests totaling more than 23,000 acres collectively across five states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont and also protects an additional 1,138,000 acres of forests through 125 conservation easements.

While landowners in California have been eligible to receive carbon offsets for several years, CAR only recently completed a two-year public stakeholder process that enabled other U.S. landowners to participate.

Last month an Improved Managed Forest project that Finite Carbon is conducting in Tennessee for the Lyme Brimstone Forest Company was listed by CAR; that was only the second such project outside of California and the first in the eastern part of the country to be listed under the new protocol. The company also recently announced that it submitted a South Carolina project for CAR listing.
