April 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Barry Tollison knows all about struggle.  He understands just how hard it can be at times.  However, he hasn't allowed his condition, his illness, or what life has dealt him to stop him.

Tollison realizes that life isn't always easy, but that hasn't impaired his drive or his determination to help other people who might need an extra boost to obtain his outlook on life.  Tollison, a disabled Birmingham native realizes that while illness or disability may play a part in the life of anyone at anytime, it does not have to mean that you live at a lesser quality or a decreased level of existence.

"There is no reason that equality should not exist, especially when it comes to quality of life.  Just because someone suffers from a life changing illness or disability does not mean that their life is worth less or that their happiness should be compromised.  That is why I formed Crystal Falls, I want to help raise funds and awareness for people who have been diagnosed with certain diseases or who suffer from other disabilities," stated Tollison.  "When I started suffering from my disability, I went through certain financial problems and was faced with issues that I never thought I would ever have to deal with in my life.  It is because of the support system that I had in place and the people who I was blessed to have in my life that I was able to persevere and carry on.  I want to be that support system for other people who do not feel they have anywhere else to turn."

Suffice to say, Tollison is in good company.  One of Tollison's pet projects through his organization is to raise money for the support of St. George's Clinic in Birmingham, Alabama.  The clinic is a subsidiary of Cooper Green Mercy Hospital and works to provide those infected with HIV with high quality medical care, support and resources.  The purpose of St. George's Clinic is to provide awareness and understanding of this disease and to allow those who have been afflicted, as well as their loved ones, with further understanding that the developments and medicinal advancements behind this epidemic do provide for a normal and full life.

The clinic provides a variety of services to patients and their families, including comprehensive medical care, evaluation and treatment of HIV infection, education on the details surrounding this infection, ongoing case management, financial assistance, nutritional counseling, mental health counseling, dental services, and social service support.

"The wonderful thing about Barry and what he is working to do is that he has been there, he has been through it and he wants to help others who are either facing health challenges and disabilities or who are working through their treatment options and getting on with their life," stated Sadie Nezich, business associate of Crystal Falls and supporter of the organization.  "There are so many diseases and disabilities that can literally stop a person in their tracks; cancer, cerebral palsy, HIV, MS, it doesn't matter, this doesn't have to be 'the end.'  There is so much to be hopeful about and Barry has realized that.  I am proud of the hope that he is spreading and I support it."

Crystal Falls looks to work with and support all individuals who are suffering from illness or disability regardless of race, creed, religion, or other affiliations.  The organization wants to work with other individuals and companies in the greater Birmingham area that can provide guidance and support in this important task.

"We are responsible for one another.  You cannot allow another human being, in good conscience, to suffer without help. We are all in this life together and we do better when we have an open heart and an open mind.  I want Crystal Falls to promote that.  That is my goal," stated Tollison.
