On Tuesday, May 4 the Montessori Children's House of Valley Forge (MCHVF) will officially celebrate the completion of it's new facility in Valley Forge National Historic Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The ceremony marks the completion of a $3.5 million renovation and expansion of the Ivy Holly Farm (David Walker Farmstead) on Thomas Road which had been sitting empty for more than five years. While classes moved into the new facility in January, final inside work and outside landscaping work were recently completed.
Guests and speakers at the event will include U.S. Congressman Jim Gerlach, Republican 7th congressional candidate Pat Meehan and MCHVF Board President Dan Astolfi. Students from the Kindergarten class will be on hand to help cut the ribbon and tours of the new facility will also be given.
In 2005 MCHVF entered into negotiations with the Valley Forge National Historic Park to renovate and lease the Ivy Hollow Farm. After extensive negotiations the school signed a 40-year lease of the property in exchange the school promised to renovate and maintain the property. MCHVF is one of the only schools in the nation located in a United States National Park.
Founded in 1963, the mission of Montessori Children’s House of Valley Forge is to educate the whole child by nurturing and fostering each child’s academic, social, creative and emotional development. The children, staff and parents form a strong, diverse community following Dr. Maria Montessori’s educational philosophy while nurturing her belief that each generation of children has the opportunity to remake the world it inherits. The teachers of the Montessori Children’s House of Valley Forge encourage the children to respect themselves, their peers, their community and their environment while striving to cultivate their innate love of learning as they prepare for a life of purpose, integrity and academic accomplishment.
