Symantec Expert to Appear on Cyber Security Panel

John McCumber, strategic programs manager, Public Sector Group of Symantec Corporation will add his expertise to a panel discussion on cyber security at this year’s NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM on Homeland Security and Defense™, Oct. 27-29.
 
April 28, 2010 - PRLog -- John McCumber, strategic programs manager in the Public Sector Group of Symantec Corporation  will add his expertise to a panel discussion on cyber security at this year’s NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM on Homeland Security and Defense™, Oct. 27-29.  His panel will discuss the EINSTEIN signature-based intrusion-detection system that currently guards the .gov domain.

Mr. McCumber is currently involved in research and development activities in support of leading edge government cyber security initiatives, and provides consultative guidance for state and local CIOs/CISOs in the areas of cyber security, data management, privacy and data availability.  Mr. McCumber  is the author of Assessing and Managing Security Risk in IT Systems: a Structured Methodology from Auerbach Publications.

Mr McCumber is a retired US Air Force officer and former Cryptologic Fellow of the National Security Agency.   During his military career, he also served in the Defense Information Systems Agency and on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon as Information Warfare Officer during the Persian Gulf War.

The NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM on Homeland Security and Defense™ is the nation’s leading public forum on homeland security and homeland defense.  The 2010 symposium is the eighth annual conference organized by the National Homeland Defense Foundation.   The symposium features international experts discussing the latest research, operations and policies affecting homeland security and defense.
