At the April 5, 2010 meeting of the Board of Directors of the Ontario County Arts
Council, the difficult decision to give up the council’s location called All Things Art
located at 65 S. Main Street in Canandaigua was made. This facility has been home base
for the council since 1999 when they moved from their previous office in the basement
of the Thompson Apartments on North Main Street. All Things Art currently houses an
art gallery, a gift shop, a large gathering hall, and the council’s office. It has been the site
of numerous artistic endeavors and events such as the very successful annual Spaghetti
Opera, and St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, numerous theater productions and musical events, student art shows, classes and workshops, and dances with the Finger Lakes Jazz Orchestra to name just a few of its activities. The facility has also been rented for weddings and numerous private parties over the past several years.
The current financial times, the high cost of maintaining such a large facility and low
membership have made it very challenging for the board to balance the budget. Vacating
the facility does not impact the core mission of the board and council which is to bring
the arts to all people of the community and to be sure the arts are at the forefront of a
vibrant community such as Canandaigua and surrounding towns. The board will be
looking to continue sponsoring events in locations throughout the region and will be
engaging in a strategic planning process to help refocus on programs and goals in tough
economic times. The board of directors would like to thank all the members,
contributors, artists, and volunteers who have helped make the years at All Things Art
successful and look forward to their continued future support.
