DENVER – Lee Clayton Roper, an award-winning author, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association Colorado Chapter, will host a conversation and signing for her cookbook, “A Well-Seasoned Kitchen,” at the Tattered Cover’s Colfax location in Denver on May 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Just in time for Mother’s Day, Lee will autograph her cookbook and share the heartwarming story of how she and her mother, Sally Clayton, wrote “A Well-Seasoned Kitchen” as a loving mother-daughter collaboration. The Clayton women have long been known for their effortless style and smart sensibility when it comes to home cooking and entertaining. So, when Sally began to suffer from the effects of early-stage memory loss and osteoporosis, it was natural for Lee to engage her mother by evoking memories of shared times in the kitchen.
Recognizing the treasury of memories and recipes that they assembled, Lee published the recipes into a practical and poignant cookbook that celebrates not only the Clayton family, but the bonds of mothers, daughters, families and friends.
Sadly, Sally passed away just as the cookbook was entering into publication. Lee completed it in her honor. In recognition of the support the Clayton family received through the years for Sally and Lee’s father Mack, a portion of proceeds from cookbook sales are donated to the Alzheimer’s Association Colorado Chapter. The Alzheimer’s Association Colorado Chapter will participate in the Tattered Cover event and speak to the importance of family activities to engage loved ones who suffer from memory loss.
